I spilled a little water on my new wood bedside table last night and didn't notice till today. There is a veneer finish and it looks slightly cracked. I dried it, but the water sat there several hours. Any suggestions to make it look smooth again?

It sounds as if the piece was unfinished. If this is the case, set an iron on medium high heat (no steam). Fold several layers of cotton cloth (an old T-shirt works fine) into about four layers, lay it over the damaged area, and iron away. I'd keep goin for about 3-5 minutes.

The heat of the iron, combined with the pressure, may remelt the glue beneath the veneer allowing it to readhere.

If this doesn't work, come on back and we'll try something else.

PS - don't worry about scorching the wood - you'll scorch the cloth long before you can damage the wood.
