i've read in a couple of threads that ceramic tile can be put directly on sheetrock (without a backer -or cement- board) using a product called OMNI-something or other.

here's my problem. we just finished redoing our kitchen and my wife wants to put ceramic tile on the walls between the backsplash and the bottom of the upper wall cabinets. well, before the cabinets and counter top were installed, i hung new sheetrock, and in a fit of neatness, primed, and then painted it using latex enamel semi-gloss.

so, here's my question. will the mastic mentioned above (or it's equivelent) stick to the newly painted wall?

No problem there Ron. Just scuff it up with some 50-80 grit sand paper and you'll be good to go. ;) The glue will get a better bite if the surface is "Roughed up".
