I have to mix by hand for approx 100sq ft.
Any specific way of doing so to avoid lumps, etc ?

It's been a loooooong time since I've mixed mud (thin-set) by hand but when I mix small amounts I use a margin trowel. It's about 2" wide and 4"to5" long and it works well for me. I also ALWAYS mix my grout with this same method. It makes for more work but it eliminates any chance of getting air bubbles(pinholes) in your grout.

I hope this helps. ;)

I use a heavy duty 1/2" drill with a heavy duty paint mixer attached to it, works great.

Used a 1X1 split in half...a smaller one for the thinset.
The job turned out beautifully....customer is extremely happy !

Thanks again all !:D
