Sorry, I should have been more specific...
All the walls are plain sheet rock.....fairly damaged sheet rock at this point, but sheet rock just the same. Is it better to repair the damaged sheet rock and then skim coat it, or just rip down all the sheet rock and start from scratch? I just don't want the "repair" to start cracking after all is said and done....

Skim coat. It takes practice, but it's worth it
