Hello again,

I bought a very cheap wooden screen door to install in the back door. I can't remember why I went cheap unless the owner would only pay so much. It is just a wooden frame with some cross bars and the entire door is screen. (Which, thanks to my cats and dogs has been replaced about three times).

The door fit fairly well for about a month and then became so warped that one has to either jerk up on the handle or pull it down in order to open or close.

I'm pretty sure that this was caused by using it:^} As previously mentioned it is a very cheap door and was on sale besides, I should have heard the warning bells.

Does anyone think this problem could be slightly corrected by using those "L" shaped metal pieces on each corner? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much.
Maureen

I'm not sure what it is called, but any hardware store should have a rod and turnbuckle. The assembly is about 2 feet long, made specifically for wood doors. It gets mounted diagonally across the door. By adjusting the turnbuckle, you can pull the door into square.

Not avalible at the local HD or Lowes
I guess there is no service after the sale :(
Time to head down to the builders surplus store and buy a better door for abotu the same $20.00

Rich and 54,
Thanks for the great answers. Gives me something to think about. Funny about HD and Lowes isn't it?

I need 2 of them for MY screen doors...
Do you have any "builders surplus" stores in your area ??
I have found many "scratch and dent" items there for 1/4 the cost of the regular home centers.
Most of them here are little locally owned places
Paint $3.00 a gallon
Moulding $1.25 for a 8' section
Delta bath faucet $15.00 ($40 @ HD)
Digital thermostat $3.00
Motion detector light $5.00 ($25.00 @ HD)

Also Home Depot sometimes has "sidewalk" sales where you can but stuff at insane discounts.
Hamptom bay 52" fan w/light $20.00 brand new in box (was marked $80.00)
Compact flouresent light bulbs $1.00 each (was $7.00)

Now all I need to do is find some screen doors ;)

Hi 54,
There is a great place here in San Antonio called ReStore. It is run by Habitat for Humanity. Stuff they didn't use in construction of new houses or architectural items that were taken out of houses about to razed are sold at cheap cheap prices.

I forgot all about them.
