Hello,
I would like to make washable covers for my living room furniture. My question is: Is there anyway to make the covers less likely to absorb odors or at least slow it down so I don't have to wash them every week? I have dogs and I am not able to give them baths every week and they smell. Thanks for the info.

There are several fabric protection products on the market today which remain in the fabric through washing. Most use Teflon as the active ingredient rather than a Scotchguard base. The one I am familiar with is a Guardian Protection Product. They are sold in furniture stores, often as an aftermarket product. Guardian also offers their product in a spray can which you can apply yourself. Their main purpose is for stain prevention, but they should help the fabric to not absorb odors. Cold water wash and line drying will help to preserve the life of the treatment.
If you can't find the product in your area, respond and I'll give you the Guardian Cutomer assist. #.
