Which trowel is better to use for 6x6 ceramic tile, set with thinset, for a shower enclosure: 1/4 x 1/4 square, or 1/4 x3/16 notched?

Hi
Either one will work...I use 1/4x14 all the time(i like to have a good contact on the back)..but it does use more material. If you use white thin set, you'll save yourself a lot of grief at grouting time..since it won;t show through to the white grout(if that's what you're using)
