I am refinishing my basement. I would like to feed all my cable (for TV) to a central accessable hub. This would involve inserting connectors (junctoins) in a few cables. Do these deteriorate the signal?
Splitting signals: Is it better to split the main supply in say 2 and split each of these further along again in 2: or is it better to split the main signal directly into 4? Or does it not matter at all?

I'd recommend running all your cables back to a central location, one cable per outlet. This is called home running. At an central, accessible location, you can install your splitter(s), or eventually a house amp. All my cables (4 active outlets) are run to the fuse panel area. I can do all my maintenance there, rather than searching for splitters all over the house.
Call your local cable company after you have run the wires. They may be willing to come out and install the connectors for free. This could prevent service calls down the road.
