I want to cover a very small area on my kitchen floor (which is all hardwood except for this small area which is pine) with the peel and stick flooring. Can I just peel and stick right onto the floor? What sort of prep do I need to do? When we pulled up the linoleum and found the wood flooring we sanded and finished it (Pine and all) and now the small part that is pine is really scuffed up.

Any advice would be great! I hate the way the floor looks.

Hardwood floors add value to your home. Covering them with peel and stick tiles would not add value to your home. Refinishing the wood floors is recommended. If you have your heart set on peel and stick tiles, they require a super smooth and clean surface for installation. Covering wood floors with a 1/4" plywood underlayment material would provide you with an adequate underlayment for a successful installation.
