Currently I have popcorn-textured ceilings that are hot with asbestos. I have arranged for an abatement company to come in for the removal. I don't want the popcorn textured type ceiling replaced, and would love to have a basic smooth ceiling with light texturing that can be done with a trowel.

I have heard this is a huge, and difficult job. Can anyone tell me the process, and if it is a DIY type job, or should I hire a contractor?

I have heard that the asbestos ceiling can be covered with sheetrock, is anyone out there familiar with this process? Does it look okay?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Katyj,

I suggest you look at this site. It was pretty good but I recommend a firm to do it. You mention popcorn texture, then you say to texture with a trowel, each is different.

Hope this helps!
