I'm going to put 3 skylights in to a low slope roof 3:12 that is covered with a modified bitmum material. I plan to install these myself then with a week or two have a new roof installed, with proper flashing done then. Since the slope is low, should I only use skylights with a curb? Can the velux self flashing units be installed on a curb. Does anyone else make a venting skylight for installation on a curb?

Velux makes a "curb" type kit that picks up the slope of the skylight especially for low slope applications. See your Velux dealer for details or try their website.

Thanks Andy;
I'm a cheap person and the prefab curbs are as expensive as teh skylights themselves. They don't seem to be anything fancy. Think I could make it out of wood and mount the skylight to the homemade curb?

Yeah, I never priced 'em because I've always been in a 5/12 or greater ( usually a LOT greater :) ) pitch situation, I just knew they were in the catalog....
I'm sure you could make your own, just getting the flashing down to leakproof would be the key.....It's like the flashing kit that you get for the Velux skylights in a "normal" install is just a few pcs of high priced, formed aluminum....but dang if they don't have it down pat for leakproof !......I've never had a leak on one.....might be best to just bite the bullet on this one.......
If you do decide to go home made, you might talk to the roofers to see what they suggest. If they are putting that rubber membrane stuff down, they could probaby make what you put up leakproof by rolling the stuff up the sides, then cover the edges with a flashing off the curb.
Just remember, water can be dang aggrivating stuff to deal with around things like this ( and chimneys too ).
