We are looking at three windows in our home that apparently have a bad seal resulting in fogging between the pains of glass. One is in our dining area, one over our kitchen sink and the third is in the bathroom. The windows were in place when we purchased the home almost 5 years ago. Can these be easily fixed by me and how do I go about it? The kitchen and dining area window have the problem in the top pain of glass. The bathroom window is a casement type and has the problem, also only on 1/2.

We believe the windows to be from a local window manufacturer and installer but as we have no paperwork we are not sure. I have been unable to find no kind of a marking to indicate the manufacturer to be sure.

Once seals have deteriorated and glass has fogged, replacement is required. Because the double pane windows are sealed during manufacturing, this is not a DIY project.

if you will look between the glass there will be a metal spacer. on that spacer there should be a stamping shch as (aln-2-98) this is the manafacture and date of manf. alenco second quarter of 98. the normal warranty is 10 years glass only no labor. if you will e-mail me with the code i will tell you who mfg. the product. the other way is a gold and black label on the head or top of the window. give me the mfg. code and series and will give you address of mfg.

Tiffer,
In addition to your warranty: If you cannot get them fixed/replaced, a good glass company can repair them.

If they are double hung windows all you need to do is remove one sash and take the whole thing to the glass shop. The only drawback is that you must cut a piece of plywood to fill in the hole while the window is being repaired.
