Hi
I am about to carpet a room 12'-9" wide x 18'-0" long. I must add 9"to the overall width and plan to seam it.
The sub floor is plywood, I will use underlay and smooth edge.
Will the new seam withstanding streching the carpet into proper position.
Thank you:)

Not unless you pole stretch away from it. If you knee kick it at that wall near the seam, then yes you will destroy it.
How much extra carpet are you going to buy, to make the 9" seam down the side?
You do realize the grain of the carpet must run in the same direction, or it will look like a different color, because of the direction the pile yarns are heat set at.
I hope you don't plan on doing a lot of "T" seaming! Especially if it is a loop pile berber or level loop.
Can you get 19'3" of carpet and make one 12'9" cut and have 6'6" left to split and seamed to make a 13'x6' fill
( 12 + 6 =18 )
Besure to seam seal all the seam edges with acrylic latex carpet seam sealer so the seams won't unravel later. Always use a power/pole stretcher to properly stretch the carpet to manufacturers specifications, and to save you knee surgery!
