I am installing a bathroom and was wondering what kind of header I need. I am installing a pre-hung 30" door. I would like to have the header for this door simply be a 2x4 on it's side (same aspect as a sole or top plate). This is due to the fact that I am trying to have 12" clear glass windows around the top of this wall, and if I need a thicker header I will need to have the windows above the door be a bit shorter. Will a 2x4 on it's side pass inspection as a door header for a non-bearing wall? Thanks guys!

That's what I always use.....but then building codes don't apply in my county, so you'd do well to check yours. I'd be a little cautious too about the weight of that "12 glass wall" you refer too.......In my case, I'm just sheetrocking over the door and there is no weight.
