We have a heavy glass sliding door of unknown make or origin (probably a commercial door about 25 years old). The aluminum track is worn and gouged. No more adjusting possible.
Question: I've searched this forum and read about a 'snaptrack' that can be installed. Is this piece 'generic' in that it can fit various models? If not, where would I go to find a piece of metal (or have one made) to fit over the existing track? Our track doesn't appear to have anywhere to snap anything into. The track is part of the aluminum bottom . Unlike a vinyl sliding door we have in another room where the aluminum track is in a vinyl grrove.
All I can think of doing is puting a piece of shaped steel over the worn track to give it more height. I 'think' a piece of steel about a half inch high would do, bent in two with a 1/4" wide fold for the door to slide on. Also, where the piece touches the base below the track it would be flared out to accomadate a few screw holes to fasten it.
Can a heavy glass door slide on steel and not aluminum?
ANY advice, suggestions very much appreciated. This door is an oddball size and I may just have to replace the whole darn (expensive!) thing.

I'd replace it...the rollers are probably also worn, and if it's that old a door, it probably has plate glass in it rather than tempered safety glass.......I can't believe how many of them I've pulled out that have plate glass......and it's MUCH heavier than tempered also.....
Plus newer doors are so much more energy efficient as a bonus.
