My air conditioner goes on, and a few minutes later you hear sparks and also a burning smell. can you tell what the problem is and what will be the cos to fix it. The air conditioner is 7 years old.

I'm not sure if you're referring to the outdoor or indoor section. My first instinct is to think it's probably a fan motor on it's way out. Can you turn off the power, take off the covers and get in a position to look at the motor while another person restores power? Try to not be touching the unit at the time. Look around for burnt wires or maybe a blown capacitor. Let us know how you make out.
