I have painted my walls (the same red ones I'm having issues with) and am on the second coat. There was an air bubble to which my landlord made a small incision to let the air out and then peeled away the bad paint, plastered it and gave me sandpaper to sand it once it was dry. On one wall I sanded the paint lifted at the edge and when I tried to tear off the little bit it just kept peeling and peeling like a sunburn (bad reference, but I don't know how else to explain it). I now have a huge peice gone and have NO idea how to fix it. It peeled all the way to the drywall.....which was 2 coats of their paint, 1 of my primer and 2 coats of red. 5 coats are gone!! I should explain that this wall is a bit weird.....the lady before me had lived there for 37 years and had not changed her decor once. On this perticular wll only she had installed wood panelling. The landlord told me that when they tore it down the nails she had used had left holes and all had to be filled and it gave them problems. Could this be a continuation of that.....how the heck do I fix it????? This apartment has had me in tears twice now.....
Thanks!
Thanks!

Affected area will have to be sanded or scraped to remove all loose surface material. Then, apply premixed plaster or joint compound to level out the wall. Sand, prime, and paint. You may have to repaint the entire wall.

Thanks for your advice. What a mess. My mother went to the apartment today and the paint was peeling back from the walls. She found out that the wall had been plastered and then painted over top, before it was dry....then I primed and painted right after. The moisture was too much and so it all bubbled and peeled. By time I got there she had peeled 90% of the paint off.....it took 10 hours. Now it's bare plaster. Now what? I have 3 red walls and 1 plaster one I want red. Where do I begin???? Thanks so much.....I'm stuck!

First patch all the bad spots.
Once the wall is patrched and dry, you can prime. This is a critical step. Go wrong here (cheap primer) and it will cost time and waste materials. Use a quality primer from a paint store.
One of the forum regulars recommends tiniting the primer gray.
Apply the primer and let it dry a day.
Now paint your red.
