I've just started painting my apartment living room/dining room red. It was beige and I primed with pink and am now on my second coat of red. It's still SO uneven......the people at Benjamin Moore told me that it could take up to 6 coats. Will it eventually even out???

Hello girlie girl, yes with enough coats it will. At this point about all you can do is coat it until it covers. I encountered my first red paint that wouldn't cover itself a few years back and having figured prime/2 coats lost my shirt tail on the job. What I do now is prime white if needed, second coat is red flat followed by no more than two coats of finish. Why you, I and others have to deal with this is no mystery. Red universal colorant is the most expensive to buy so they make the base for red paint clear now so it takes less colorant to mix it.....Mike

How did your red wall turn out? I have the same problem. Did you repreimer or just keep adding coats?

Well......I am on my 3rd coat and as far as I can tell I'm halfway there. It's getting better.....but I'll still need at least 2 more and most likely three. Will the roller marks ever dissapear?!?!?!?
So you are doing red as well? How is it looking?

My red wall has only one coat of paint and the lap lines are really visible. I want to add more coats with a better roller but I don't want to be on my fourth coat and find out from this forum that I should have re-primered the wall. So I am in limbo, but will probably start putting on more coats any day now if I can't get any direction from the forum. What kind of roller are you using? Suggest using another than the one you have?

Hi David.....did you primer the wall at all before beginning? I used a primer tinted 'Pepto Bismol' pink, as suggested by Home Depot. The roller I am using is just a basic 10 or 11 mm that I picked up there and it's working fine. The paint company suggested I fill my roller with paint, then make one long ceiling to floor line, and roll over it several times until it is covered. Then re-fill the roller with paint again and make a new floor to ceiling stoke, going over the previous one by 25%. Are you doing this? I find it's really helping with the lap marks.
