Question: My a/c outside unit fan is not running, what could the problem be. Could just the fan gone out, or is it the whole unit. I can hear a sound came from it but not running. Please write with some suggestion.

You need to determine if the compressor is running or not. If it is, you should be able to hear it and the small copper line will be hot. Running the unit without the outside fan is a no-no. Turn the outside breaker OFF and check the fan motor capacitor for swelling or leaking. (bad). Rotate the fan blade slowly by hand to see if it turns freely. If not then it has bad bearings. Look for a burnt wire or terminal. If nothing found, replace the fan cap and turn the unit on. If everything runs, you've solved the problem. If not, then you've only wasted a couple bucks for a cap and you've got an open winding in the fan motor and it needs replacement, in which case you allready have a new cap.
