My thermostat is showing that the temperature in the house is around the mid 80's in the day when I have my air conditioning unit set on 70. It definetly doesn't feel like it is cooling right. Someone said that it was just because it was so hot outside now and that it wouldn't cool that low but it did last summer. What could the problem be? I feel that it works at night but it still does not register the temperature I have it set at.

For lack of more info, there's a number of reasons for your unit not to cool for you. First you need a clean filter. If the unit has some age on it and the airflow is reduced, the coil and the blower wheel could be clogged with gook. If you have some registers closed , or dampers, this also will reduce airflow across the indoor coil. If you have a freon leak, this could be the problem. We've got some hot weather out there and if you're borderline on the units capacity, this could be the reason.Take a flashlight and inspect the indoor coil for internal gook inside the fins, and the blower wheel. Look for any oily spots around the copper tubing, indicating a leak. If the coil is badly plugged or you find an oil spot, call a HVAC tech. Hope this helps.

in extreme conditions, an a/c unit will continuosly run and struggle to keep set temp. this is because if it did it would be grossly oversized, causing short cycling during 80 to 90 degreee days therefore not controlling the humidity. check temp drop between return and supply air. look for 16 to 20 degree drop. after doing what ahasbeen suggests, if you get no relief, get a pro to check it out.
