In my Old 1925 house, we ripped open the bath/shower area (rotten) to discover that the top plate and the cap plate are rotten along with one stud. I can replace the stud, but how to replace both the plates is the question. When building a new wall the break points between top and cap plates need to be 4 feet apart. My problem is that this bathroom wall is about 6 feet total and I dont want to open up the out side of the houe (4+4+4 = 12 feet) nor the inside to do a replacement etc....So what can I use to do a repir of 4 -6 feet of rotten top plate AND cap plate? Help is greatly appreciated!
