We are in the process of building a new home and are having a disagrement with our builder about the installation of carpet for two rooms that are connected by a small alcove area. We have chosen a berber for our family room. This room is connected with the master bedroom by a small alcove area. At the end of this alcove is a door that leads to the master bedroom with plush carpeting. The builder has installed the plush
carpeting into the alcove area. We contend that this area should have the berber like the family room because of the position of the bedroom door. By placing the door at the end of the alcove and leading into the bedroom, the builder has made the alcove area part of the bedroom. Can you tell who is correct? Thanks.

Did your builder show you a layout? ( a drawing that shows which carpet goes where and where the seams will be)
This is standard in the industry (CRI105, www.carpet-rug.com ), unless it is in writing somewhere (or maybe in a model home)the carpet goes where the builder says it goes you are in the right You are paying the bills, why is the builder calling the shots?
IMNSHO
The builder is tryig to bully you because he made a mistake (ordered the wrong amount of carpet, never asked you where you want which carpet, or doesn't have an installer capable of doing what you want, take your pick) and trying to get you to eat it so he doesn't have to. What is he going to decide for you next, your first born's name?
The cutomer calls the shots here not the builder. Even if he has to pull out the whole living room to get a dye lot match, stick to your guns on this. And make sure he pays for his mistake, not you.
(sorry to step on your toes here Perry, I just HATE it when builders goof up and try to make others pay for their mistakes)

Step on my toes? NO WAY
I need someone in here to take up the slack.
You said it better then I ever could.
Where does the buck stop? With the customer or the builder? Passing blame by the builder, assures you of his character. Who is held accountable? YOU?
Sounds like a flooring retailer or 10, I know!
What's sad... They will most likely blame the flooring installer and deduct it from his pay.
Lisa feel free to jump in anytime. We are on the same page, of the same book.
