I have a 10 year old Magic Chef Range that works fine except for the oven/broiler. The unit has been in storage for 4 years. Everyone seems to recall that it was last used with natural gas as it is connected now, and functioned normally. Top burners have normal flame , which testifies to the fact that it is set up for natural gas.
Here is the problem. The oven doesn't fire at all. When it is turned to broil, there is the required 3 VAC to the gas valve. When the input tube to the gas valve is loosened, there is a hissing gas flow. The igniter glows red. The gas valve has been replaced twice. Logic tells me low gas pressure but the condition of the top burners which share the same regulator belieghs that possibility.
Help!!!!
EDIT: After reading another post here, I decided to turn all of the top burners on full and try the broiler. Same results. Very hot glow plug and no output from the gas valve.

Hello waterbug. Welcome to my Gas Appliances forum.
The most likely problem is a spider web inside the gas valves orifice. A common problem when gas appliances are left in storage.
Remove the burner. Insert a pipe cleaner inot the orifice hole to remove the web. Be aware that this trick does not work on all burner gas valve orifices. In most cases, the brass or bronze orifice must be totally remove to clear out the web.
Another point to consider before removing that orifice is how far it is currently opened. To determine this, count the number of turns it takes to close it first.
When the task is completed, screw the orifice on until it bottoms, then counter screw it open the number of turns it took to close it. Doing it this way will allow you to more accurately maintain the orginal setting.
If you need further assistance, use the REPLY button. By doing so, the additional information you add or questions you may have, will remain within this posting. Using this method also moves the topic back up to the top of the list automatically.
Regards & Good Luck.
