We are getting ready to sell and starting scraping peeling paint from wood around exterior windows. Some isn't budging and the wood is easily gouged (probably shot) and we are not replacing. What can we do to make the trim look nice? I will need a step by step as we are not experienced in doing home repair/improvements. Thanks!!

The best looking and cheapest way to go is to cover the exterior trim with a pre-painted or PVC coated aluminum trim coil as is done when replacements are installed or often when vinyl siding is done. It's not really a first-time diy type job, but if you went and watched an installer for a day, you could pick up the basics, then rent a brake to bend the metal and probably do it.
A better way to go would be to find a window or siding guy and pay him to do it.....you'll probably come out with a great looking job cheaper than your learning curve. Figure 20-30 bucks a window for labor and materials.
