Our kitchen table is experiencing "bubbling". Bubbles and splits on the surface area of the table. Is there a way to fix this?

A few questions:

What is the age of the piece

What type of finish is it.

Come on back and I'll try to help.

Dear George:
Thanks for the help. We bought the table at Oak Express about three years ago. It was a brand new piece but heat from plates and water spills have an immediate effect on table. Is there a way to fix it?

The finish is lacquer, and from your initial description (re: bubbling) I doubt the finish can be repaired. I'm afraid you'll have to strip it. The good news is you won't have to deal with anything but the top.

Lacquer is used on most furniture because it dries quickly and evenly, and smoothly. In other words, it lends itself well to mass production.

Unfortunately, it is susceptible to heat and water. Place mats and trivets are a must for maintaining the appearance.
