We have a finished basement with pine floors. We have a dehumidifier running but there are areas where the pine has developed black, damp streaks. I believe that this is a natural occurance since it is summer. Is this considered mildew? A whitish film shows up as well on top of the wood (mold?).
Will the bleach/water combo fix this and how should it be applied (without having to paint)? Any suggestions are welcome.

Solid hardwood floors are not recommended for basement installation below grade because of the potential moisture problems. Mold/mildew is a sign of moisture problems. Disinfecting the affected areas with bleach/water solution will be a temporary fix for eliminating the mold/mildew. It will not remove the stains. Much has been in the news lately about the ill effects of mold/mildew on health.

Your report indicates the potential for serious problems! Most occuring black mold is NOT toxic on the one hand, the most toxic mold is black on the other. Seek advice from a knowledgeable professional.
