Replaced old range top with a new tappan range top. Replaced all the piping. Range top is working perfect, except there is a faint gas odor (natural gas).
It has been a few hours and the smell is still there. Have checked all the fittings to make sure they were tight. All are.
Wondering about the pressure regulator? Old range (40yrs.) didn't have one. Do I need a pressure regulator? Could this be the problem?
I'm driving my husband crazy! Concerned about leaking gas. Please any ideas?

Hello ahha82. Welcome to my Gas Appliances forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
Faint gas odors from newly replaced stove tops is not do to a defective part or poor connection within the appliance itself. The appliance is tested at the factory b4 leaving.
The most likely problem is a tiny tiny gas leak at a connection made to the appliance or in the supply piping. Supply piping could be the felx line to the stove or any other pipe or fitting installed, moved or replaced.
To locate the leak, soap test ALL connections made, parts added and or removed to accomplish all phases of the project up to and including the first and last connection made. Doing so will ensure that the tiny leak is located so it can be corrected.
A soapy water solution can be made from ordinary disk washing liquid. Slightly thick mixture and applied with a brush or sponge to every area, all over and one at a time.
Allow a few seconds or so and check around all fittings and parts for tiny bubbles. Repeat as needed and triple check if need be.
YES. An appliance regulator MUST be installed on the appliances intake manifold pipe. Do so by reading the instructions first and installing it exactly as described. Soap test after installation.
Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers instructional or owners manual & online web sites for product information, problem possibilities, causes and solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair proceedures, and instructions, pictorials and schematics, which may be available online.
