Hi !

Is there any DIY option to repair brass door knobs, faucets that are dioscolored over time ? For most part these brass furnishings are good except at some spots brass has turned gray.

Thanks for the help.

Most furniture refinishing supply stores and some home centers carry a lacquer that's made for brass. You'll need some.

The lacquer finish currently on these pieces can be removed with a 50:50 mix of denatured alcohol (shellac thinner) and lacquer thinner. Use 0000 steel wool.

This will also polish the brass, removing any discoloration. After they have been wiped dry, you can recoat with the made-for-brass lacquer (it comes in aerosol form).

This is assuming (and it's a big assumption) the pieces are SOLID brass - not brass plated. If they are the latter, the only solution is to have them re-plated
