There is a professional kit for vinyl repair put out by Mohawk Finishing supplies of Amsterdam,NY. I'm not suggesting you purchase one, but if you call them, they might be able to tell you who is doing it in your area.
It involves cutting out the damaged area, gluing a knit backing under the hole, and using their colored liquid vinyl to build the surface back up, finally, embossing a matching grain on the repair and spraying a matching gloss finish. If done properly, it's hard to detect. The difficult part is getting a good color match. Not too bad if it's black, but anything else can be a real pain if you're not doing it every day.
Myself, I restrict my repairs like this to simply taking the piece apart and replacing the damaged section.
Once in a while you see kits on TV that simulate the professional method, but they aren't anywhere near as good since you can't mix the colors to get a perfect match.
