a4ld trans prob

i just bought an 1988 ranger stx 4x4 and no matter what gear you select it will go forward even park very weird i know if anybody has encountered this problem or has any ideas im open for suggestions.

1st, 'i' would have a helper,move the shift lever-p-r-n-d-2-l-L.
& you,or some one that understands what 'should be happing,
watch the trans-shift arm.
post back- if the trans selector lever/arm is moving,as with the selections,

my'guess' linkage inside- loose/damaged.
'if' you are capable-pull pan & inspect.

LINKAGE WAS FINE FOUND OUT CLUCHES ARE WELDED TOGETHER FROM PREVES OWNER RUNNING IT WITH NO FLUID

that 'aint' gona be a cheap repair.
but even with the chutch pack galleded/welded together.
the park pawl/gear should not allow it to go foward in 'park'if you are involved in this repair/replacement- make sure the trans fluid-COOLER is cleaned properly.

I FOUND ANOTHER TRANNY FOR $175 and installed it . new tranny works fine thanks for the help.
