We have a Goodman unit outside that is not doing anything when we turn it on. We checked the evap coil in the attic and it is blowing air and coming on but the outside isn't even clicking. We have checked the contactor, wires, fuses, disconnect, etc and everything looks fine. Unit is only 2 yrs old. Is there anything else that we can check? We live in TX and the a/c is already needed. Have small children. Not unbearable yet but getting there. Hate to call someone out if it's something simple that I can fix. Thank you for your input!!!! | 03-19-09, 04:47 PM | | Member | | Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: Mississippi Posts: 1 | | | Goodman AC troubleshooting Hey Number 1 a Goodman unit usally carries a five year waranty. Most now have a ten year waranty. (ALL PARTS). Two If you want use a electrical meter. With the thermostat calling for cooling. Turn off disconnect to condensor open cover that the electrical goes in. Put one meter lead on one side of the contactor (The Small wires usally blue and yellow) The other on the other side. See if you have 24vac going to contactor. If you do you probally have a bad contactor. But it would be easier to have it fixed under waranty for now. | 03-19-09, 05:16 PM | | Banned. If you have voltage on condenser motor and it wont turn than replace your motor. | 03-20-09, 08:16 AM | | Member | | Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Tennessee Posts: 479 | | | Not cool It sounds like you are not getting a 24 volt signal outside first check the thermostat wires coming from your house to the unit make sure your dog, the neighbors dog or the kids haven't torn something up. Then if you have a meter do as suggested, if you don't have one take the thermostat off the wall and tie the wire from the Y terminal to the one from the R terminal if the outdoor unit runs you have a bad stat if it doesn't you need to either call someone or get yourself a meter and getting it fixed under warranty will cover parts but they are going to charge you labor. | 03-20-09, 01:18 PM | | Member | | Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: Texas Posts: 2 | | | reply and another ? borrowing a meter today so looking forward to hopefully getting this thing fixed! Fortunately we have a window a/c in the bedroom and lots of fans. Can I pick up parts from a local a/c supply or do you have to have a license? Also, if the stat was bad would the heat work? We have a programmable stat that will turn on the heat fine but the a/c only blows air, the condensor outside just isn't coming on. Could this still be the stat? Thanks for the advice and I'll let ya know how the meter testing goes over the weekend. | 03-20-09, 01:25 PM | | Topic Moderator | | Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Northern AZ Posts: 6,938 | | | Most non-refrigeration parts are available for purchase (fans, contactors, caps etc) over the counter at a supply store. If your air handler fan is coming on, I can't imagine it would be the thermostat. __________________ Vic I'm no expert, but don't tell my wife that. | 03-20-09, 07:54 PM | | Member | | Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 13 | | | If you turn on the heat and it works either you have A. electric or gas furnace or B. heat pump and your auxillary, or back up heat is coming on. doesn't sound like the thermostat to me. Make sure that you have line voltage 208/230 Vac with a volt meter on the outdoor unit, if so and still nothing, it is going to be in the low voltage/ 24 Vac side. If you don't then check your breakers, connections, service disconnect. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -7.
