Just take the test (there's on online as the home inspectors website as I recall), this let you say you are 'certified'.

Get your "Errors and Omissions" insurance as well as general liability, business licenses, tax ID's, etc.

Check with your local licensing to see if you need anything more specific.

As for initial out of pocket, not much really, a ladder, multi-meter, flashlight, etc.. Probably all stuff you already have, as there's no special equipment needed.

Then decide what type of inspections you'll be doing and make a checklist and contract (here again, many samples online). Some don't do roofs, some don't do crawlspaces, etc.
