May be something with the old tubing...but..

Are you using the brass inserts and ferrulles with the coupling? Copper lines don't need the inserts, poly lines do.

btw, I'd run all new lines or use stainless flex hose if it would reach. The splicing just adds 4 more possible failure points. And if the old line split once, who's to say it won't do it again when yer away for the weekend?
