Hey there... The master/slave configuration for IDE is only applicable when you have two drives on the same cable. Your jumper setting on the PATA (IDE) drive should be Master or Master-Single, if there is such a setting on that drive. In BIOS, set the drive detection settings to Auto, and select the SATA drive as your first boot device.

I would always buy a SATA drive if there is a SATA connector available, if nothing else because sata cables are much nicer to work with and don't "clog up" the computer case.
