Building a strong gate that will last with wood is a very difficult task. Wood while seemingly a very strong material, is subject to shrinkage, cracking and warping over time (That is no matter how well it is constructed and braced). So while even if built right, a gate built with wood has a relative short life.
Also, the chainlink frame that was suggested by another person will not work well. Hope this is helpful.
