Sad to say, yes there is water going down the drain the whole time it runs, but I haven't really seen a big dent in my water bill on this.. But if water is high in your area, then I'd look into the Steam system.. Honeywell is brining out a new steam system called TrueSTEAM. You are going to get 1:1 of water/steam. It may be spendy up front, but in the long run will be saving on your water bill.
